The haunting book trailer for Katherine Langrish’s acclaimed fantasy ‘Dark Angels’ (US title The Shadow Hunt’). www.katherinelangrish.co.uk Wolf is on the run, lost on a dark hillside said to be haunted by ghosts, demons and elves. There he meets heroic-seeming Lord Hugo, crusader and troubadour, out hunting with his men. But Hugo nurses a terrible grief — and when he and Wolf discover a mysterious, disfigured elf-child, Wolf’s feet are set on a path which will take him deep into the shadows. Katherine Langrish says “Some of the background to the making of this trailer: the story is set on and around the sinister, atmospheric Shropshire hill which I renamed ‘Devil’s Edge’, but is actually called ‘Stiperstones’. I love mountains, and the Welsh Marches contain a wonderful mix of English and Celtic history and folklore. “To research the book and make the trailer, I went to Shropshire, and tramped over Stiperstones in rain, in mist, and in sweeping wind. I visited a wolf sanctuary set in a narrow little valley — it began to snow as we descended the steep track, and I’ll never forget the snow falling precipitously past the dark serried ranks of fir trees, and the wolves howling in the winter landscape. I climbed the grassy mound which is all that’s left of the 11th century Montgomery stronghold of Hen Domen. He has lived “back and forth” between the US, Continental Europe and New Zealand and has been educated in each region. He first became interested in archaeo-astronomy in the 1970′s and, by applying exacting surveying and measurement techniques, has made a close study of mysterious, New Zealand, pre-Polynesian structures. The book, Ancient Celtic New Zealand, featured an official archival document, which clearly showed an intention, by New Zealand Government Departments, to withhold archaeological information from the public for a period of 75 years. Since publication of the book, many indignant people have written to the National Archives for an explanation as to why such an embargo had been put in place. They have questioned the legality of such imposed restrictions and have contacted their Members of Parliament to force a release of any information still being withheld. This author and others, simply wish to inform the public that, in New Zealand, archaeological information, artefacts and skeletal evidence can be deemed secret, with knowledge deliberately withheld in the perceived interests of government policy. Whether or not the fullness of embargoed information from the Waipoua Forest Archaeological dig has finally found its way …
